Prison Fellowship Rwanda organized a one‑day clinical supervision session for Mental Health Officers and MHPSS volunteers working in refugee camps. The activity aimed to strengthen the quality, ethical standards, and sustainability of mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services.
Mental health practitioners in refugee settings are frequently exposed to complex psychosocial cases that place significant emotional and professional demands on them. The clinical supervision session provided a structured and safe space for participants to reflect on their work, discuss challenging cases, receive professional guidance, and reinforce ethical decision‑making.
Key topics covered included clinical supervision principles, case discussion and reflection, quality standards in MHPSS service delivery, safeguarding and ethical practice, and strategies for managing vicarious trauma and burnout. The session also promoted peer support and self‑care practices to enhance staff wellbeing.
The session brought together 36 participants, comprising 24 MHPSS volunteers, 8 Mental Health Officers, and 3 Prison Fellowship Rwanda management staff. This initiative reflects Prison Fellowship Rwanda’s commitment to professional accountability, duty of care, and consistent, high‑quality mental health services across all refugee camps.
