PFR Mahama and GIZ Strengthen Socio-Economic Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities Through Assistive Devices Support

Mahama Camp, 14 August 2026 – PFR Mahama, in partnership with GIZ, has reinforced its commitment to promoting the socio-economic inclusion of persons with disabilities through the provision of assistive devices and equipment aimed at improving mobility, accessibility, and economic participation.

Previously, persons with disabilities supported by the project received training on economic inclusion, savings groups, and the development of small income-generating activities. Following the training, many beneficiaries successfully established small businesses and became active members of savings groups.

Despite these achievements, some participants continued to face mobility and accessibility challenges that limited their ability to fully engage in and manage their economic activities. Recognizing these barriers, GIZ provided reasonable accommodation through the donation of assistive devices and specialized equipment.

The items received and distributed by PFR Mahama included:

• 16 pairs of axillary/elbow crutches;
• 10 adapted commode chairs;
• 1 wheelchair; and
• 1 electric sewing and tailoring machine to support a beneficiary's income-generating activity.

The assistive devices were provided to identified beneficiaries and are expected to significantly improve their mobility, independence, accessibility, and economic participation.

This support reflects the shared commitment of PFR Mahama and GIZ to ensuring that persons with disabilities have equal opportunities to contribute to and benefit from socio-economic development. The initiative will further strengthen inclusion, promote dignity, and improve the livelihoods of persons with disabilities within the community.
